The cleanest tie rule is extra innings. Move to 10, then 11 and onward, using the matching segments until one player leads after everyone has completed the same extra inning. Because a standard board reaches 20, this can continue naturally. Another common house option repeats inning 9 for a playoff, but agree before beginning.
Some groups use a seventh-inning stretch penalty: a player who scores zero in inning 7 loses half the accumulated runs, often rounded down. This is a house variation, not necessary to play. If used, write it on the scorecard because it changes strategy sharply and surprises new players.

Early innings are narrow visual targets because 1, 2 and 3 occupy different areas of the board. Favor the large single bed until grouping improves. A reliable three-run inning is valuable and avoids zeros. When trailing late, the double or triple becomes worth the added risk. Aim at a point inside the single wedge that leaves room away from wires. If your first dart blocks the target, switch between the upper and lower single beds. When a dart lands near the triple, use it as a visual marker only if the grouping line is comfortable; forcing a blocked route can cause all three to miss.
